Hack Ballet

The beauty and power of dance

Hack Ballet is a contemporary ballet company directed by dancer/choreographer Briar Adams. The company develops both theatrical and site-specific work incorporating contemporary and classical techniques, with a focus on physicality, articulation, floorwork and improvisation.

Performances by Hack Ballet showcase the fierce personalities of the dance artists who collaborate to create dynamic dance infused with creative energy. Dancers with the company have trained at the best national and international dance conservatoires, including the Royal Ballet School, Central School of Ballet, London Contemporary Dance School, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, National Theatre Ballet School (Australia) and Vienna State Opera Ballet School (Austria).

Founded in 2012, Hack Ballet seeks to create high quality original work with reference to the great themes of the 20th and 21st century in dance. The company have performed in London at venues including The Place and Richmix, and at several dance and community festivals. They are looking to broaden their reach and are seeking to develop partnerships with venues in London, as well as pursue opportunities to tour nationally.

One of the goals of the company is to offer ballet and contemporary dance that tackles issues of equality and diversity of gender and physicality in the construction of the choreographic material. In generating original movement material, Adams and the dancers attempt to blur and override gender differences, demonstrating diversity of encounters and relationships among the individual performers, which hopes to hone in on their unique strengths and how those are pooled together to create a bond with the group, rather than conforming to an exacting standard of uniformity of body type and movement style. To this end, Briar Adams has gathered dancers from a variety of technical backgrounds into her productions, with collaborators whose strengths are in improvisation and floorwork, together with classical dancers, circus artists and burlesque performers.

The company has developed a very high standard purely supported through in kind donations and the tireless efforts of volunteers. Working with Hack Ballet, 8th Wonder Creatives are seeking to secure Angel investors who can provide growth and development opportunities including guidance, help make connections and financial backing to realise the full potential of Hack Ballet.
